Aus den Liner Notes zu einer Aufnahmesession mit John Lee Hooker und u. a. Bernhard "Pretty" Purdie mit Producer Bob Thiele.
...
Off to the side, a small ritual go under way: Pretty Purdie, drummer on countless R'n'B and pop recordings, began setting his shop in order.
Cymbals ans pedals arranged, he erected two small candy-striped signs.
DID IT AGAIN! THE LITTLE OLD HIT MAKER: "PRETTY PURDIE" and BING, BANG, BOOM: PRETTY PURDIE AT IT AGAIN: THE HIT MAKER!
While Hooker continued his quiet lessons, a large box of food arrived and was distributed, mostly to Purdie,
who ringed his set a complete chicken dinner --- salad on ride cymbal, soup on tom-tom, chicken in hand.
"Are you ready?" Thiele called froom the booth. "Is the drummer ready to play?"
"He's not gonna play no `Sing Sing Sing`, someone responded.
But dishes and dessert in place, the rhythm started and all six men fell together, swaying ans snapping like reeds in a wind...
